Boise man sentenced for unlawful possession of a firearm

A 27-year-old Boise man has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Boise says Michael Jeffrey Sanders received the sentence of four years and 10 months on Tuesday in U.S. District Court.

Sanders pleaded guilty in November. According to the plea agreement, police pulled Sanders over for a traffic violation in January 2017 and found a short-barreled shotgun under the driver’s seat.

Sanders in 2014 was convicted of possession of a controlled substance after police pulled him over and found drugs as well as a handgun with an obliterated serial number and hollow point ammunition.

Following that conviction, he could not legally possess firearms.
