Grants help establish animal shelter surgical suite

The Pocatello Animal Shelter is using three grant awards to establish an on-site surgical suite for shelter animals.

The shelter was awarded a $50,000 grant by PetSmart Charities earlier this year. A short time later, the Whittier Trust donated $20,000 that was soon matched by another $20,000 from the Myers family to purchase surgical equipment.

Once the equipment is installed in April, the suite will allow the shelter to conduct spay and neuter surgeries and other operations for shelter animals.

Danielle Garcia, Animal Services Director said, “The suite will make things much less stressful on the animals at the shelter and we will also save staff time by not having to shuttle animals to and from clinics elsewhere in the area.”

The new suite will feature two surgery tables, an exam table, a dental table, and a fully equipped preparation and recovery room.
