Two arrested after report of home invasion
Report of a home invasion in the 1900 block of North Deborah Drive led to the arrest of two people at around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday.
Bonneville County deputies were called to the house by Angel Colmenero-Contreras. The man, who admitted to being under the influence of methamphetamine, had been throwing knives and breaking things because he thought someone was after him. He received a cut to his hand in the process.
Colmenero-Contreras was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for treatment and for a mental evaluation. After more disruptive behavior at the hospital, he was booked into the Bonneville County Jail.
Meanwhile, deputies learned that a second subject, identified as Angel Avendano, 21, was living in the house and wanted on a felony warrant for failure to appear. An officer made contact with him at the home. Avendano gave the deputy a false name, ran back inside the house and barricaded himself.
Deputies surrounded the house and activated the Bonneville County SWAT team. They used pepper spray inside the house and found him hiding under a mattress in a rear bedroom.
Avendano was taken into custody and transported to the Bonneville County Jail. He was booked on the outstanding felony warrant and misdemeanor charges of resisting and obstructing.
Investigation is continuing.
