Jackson Hole High School cooks up a state title

The Jackson Hole High School Culinary, Baking and Restaurant Management teams defended their 2017 state title at the Wyoming ProStart Invitational.

ProStart is a two-year educational program sponsored by the National Restaurant Assolciation Educational Foundation in partnership with the Wyoming Restaurant and Lodging Association.

The students’ success was more than a feather in their chef hat. It provided $235,000 in culinary and hospitality school scholarships and a place in national competition in Providence, Rhode Ilsnad April 27-29.

Here are the results:

Culinary :
1st Place
Sam Lima, Santiago Montiel-Juarez, Jennifer Lopez, Said Jimenez, Brayan Perez

Professional Baking :
1st Place
Katya Flores, Jasmin Nava Moreno

Restaurant Management:
2nd Place
Katie Lewis, Morana Lunquiest, Sarah Sampson

The culinary team prepared three courses in one hour using only two gas burners and no electricity or refrigeration. The baking team prepared two breads, a show cake, and demonstrated a variety of cake decorating techniques. And the Restaurant Management team created a business plan for a restaurant for presentation to several panels of judges.
