The Latest: At least 3 injured in fatal highway Utah crash

UPDATE 3/27/18/- 4:10 p.m. The deceased driver of a 2017 Peterbuilt semi truck out of Missouri has been identified as 61 year old Oscar Longoria out of Barling, Missouri.

UPDATE 3/26/18 – 5:55 p.m.

Eastbound and westbound closure on I-80 is set for both lanes to re-open around 7 p.m.

UPDATE: 4:15 p.m.

As investigation continues, the Utah Highway Patrol has determined the Interstate 80 incident Monday involved 5 separate crashes.

12 commercial vehicles and 2 passenger cars were involved in the first crash.

Four additional crashes followed as a result of the first, within a half-mile span. There were eight semi-trucks involved.

UPDATE 12:00 p.m. The Utah Highway Patrol confirms one person was killed and another person in critical condition was air lifted to McKay Dee Hospital. Two more were transported by ground ambulance to Park City with non-threatening injuries.

13 people were transported by school bus to Coalville with minor injuries.

Sgt. Nick Bricker said there were 23 vehicles in about half a dozen crashes Monday morning on Interstate 80 near the junction with Interstate 84.

Bricker says the crashes occurred on a half-mile, curving stretch of the highway in morning darkness and snow.

Bricker did not have details about the person who was killed or the injured people.

One lane of east bound I-80 is open. The highway patrol said the west bound lane will be closed for some time.

Utah authorities are working to clear a snowy highway where about 30 vehicles were involved in a fatal crash Monday morning.

At least one person was killed in the multi-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 80 at Echo Junction (MM 172) northeast of Salt Lake City. Utah Highway Patrol Nick Bricker says authorities do not yet have details on the person who was killed in the crash on Interstate 80 near the junction with Interstate 84.

Bricker says most of the 30 vehicles were semitrailers.

Authorities say those involved in the crash are being bused to a nearby church to stay warm.

Bricker said officials do not yet know how the accident started.
