Gregersen’s big week nets Athlete of the Week honors on May 2nd
This weeks (5/2/18) Sermon Service Electric Athlete of the Week is helping his team at the dish and on the mound.
Coach Pat Lloyd would stick his player anywhere on the diamond, including third if he wasn’t left handed.
Andrew Gregersen went three for nine against the Blackfoot Broncos including a double and a two run homer to help his team clinch the top spot in the 3A tournament.
Gregersen is a junior this year and has played on the varsity team since his freshman year of high school.
Coach Lloyd is noticing improvements and changes in his talented junior.
“I would say the biggest difference between Andrew as a freshman and now, actually his leadership he brings to the team,” says Lloyd, “you know he’s one of those guys who is competing on every pitch and doing everything we asked him to do. But now as a junior he is stepping up into more of a leadership role with this program and he does a great job with that.”
“Every moment is not as big as it feels like, every year it feels like, every year it gets like non chalant, relaxed, when you’re like freshman year, oh my gosh.” says Gregersen.
Gregersen is proving to be a force on the mound and at the plate, he is also an inspiration through his communication and hustle on the field.
“He’s more of the quiet guy and yeah he leads more through example and hustling on and off,” says Lloyd, “not necessarily the rah rah guy in the dugout, some of the other kids have stepped up in that type of role, but Andrew does his style of leadership very well.”
“Just talk in the dugout,” says Andrew, “talk to each other build relationships that way, and outside of baseball.”
Congratulations to Andrew Gregersen, he will receive a plaque from Crown Trophy for being named our Athlete of the Week.
