Local students in running as Presidential Scholars

Hillcrest and Century High School students are among eight semi-finalists chosen for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

Each year, the program selects top graduating high school seniors from each state for their outstanding achievements. Presidential scholars from each state are to be announced May 8.

Idaho’s 2018 semi-finalists were selected in three categories:

Academics:
Rachel A. Forest, Century High School
Araoluwa P. Omotowa, Hillcrest High School
Jack A. Lauer, Boise High School
Alyssa Y. Lu, Boise High School,
Garrett L. Thompson, Potlatch Jr-Sr High School
Tia T. Vierling, Moscow High School

Arts:
Claire Manning, Boise High School

Career & Technical Education:
Emma K. Winle, Middleton High School

The Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 by President Lyndon Johnson. In addition to scholastic and artistic achievements, the scholars are evaluated for leadership and involvement in their school and community.
