ISP kicks off click it or ticket

With Memorial Day weekend approaching us, more travelers will be on the road. Idaho State Police has teamed up with agencies across the state to enforce the use of seatbelts.

‘Click it or ticket’ is a nationwide campaign that kicked off in Idaho on Monday, and Police are in full force making sure drivers and their passengers are wearing their seat belts.

Lt. Chris Weadick from ISP said, “Southeast Idaho has historically one of the lowest seat belt usage statewide; we are really out to promote and enforce that seat belt usage.”

According to ISP data, the number of people wearing seat belts has increased, but 66% of people not wearing their seat belts died in traffic accidents around the state. Wearing a seat belt increases your chances surviving a car accident by 73 percent.

“I have gone to a number of crashes where we have severe injuries and even catastrophic results because of the simple act of buckling up wasn’t done,” Weadick said on Monday, “If you are stopped and you don’t have your seatbelt on, you not only risk being fined, but you also risk being injured or potentially killed in a crash if you are involved in an incident. We are asking all the occupants to please buckle up while you are driving.”

If you or passengers are caught not wearing a seat belt you can face fines.
