Pools begin to open in Eastern Idaho
Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of summer. What does summer mean? A lot of swimming. It won’t be too long until families in Eastern Idaho are spending their days at the pool. Many of those pools across the area are preparing for the summer season.
“Just really excited to open up and have another really great season under our belt,” said Maegan Scholes, the aquatics manager at Rexburg Rapids.
The Rexburg Rapids season opens June 9.
Mondays through Fridays, 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays, 12:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
“(The) Public has been great” Scholes said. “We love it when we’re at full capacity days because it just shows the fun and support the kids get to have.”
The Idaho Falls Wes Deist Aquatic Center starts its summer hours on Monday, May 28.
Public swim: Mondays through Fridays, 1 p.m to 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
“We’ve been open and in our community for more than 31 years and with that we’ve had success,” said P.J. Holm, the recreation superintendent for the city of Idaho Falls.
The Ashton City pool opens June 11.
Open swim: Mondays through Saturdays, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The Lava Hot Springs outdoor pool opens May 25.
Mondays through Sundays, noon to 8 p.m.
Heise Hot Springs summer season begins May 28.
Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays, noon to 10 p.m.
Pocatello’s Ross Park Aquatic Complex starts the summer season on May 26.
Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, noon to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, noon to 7 p.m.
The City of Ammon Pool and Splash Pad begins it’s swimming lessons June 4.
Mondays through Sundays, 8 a.m. to 9:15 p.m.
With the summer season right around the corner, it’s time for these aquatic centers to start to thrive.
“We’re one of a kind in this area,” Scholes said. “We’re not just a pool. We’ve got slides, we’ve got a lazy river, we’ve got tons of attractions to bring the family out and to have fun. It’s also an all-day thing you can do.”
If you’re looking for a job this summer, some of these places are still looking to hire lifeguards.
“Our staff grows to about a 100 through the summer months,” said Holm. “We are probably about 80 percent there and we’re still looking for another dozen, maybe 20, lifeguards to come on duty with us this summer.”
Many of these pools also offer swimming lessons to help ensure your kids are safe this summer.
“That’s why we’re only open in the afternoon and the evenings for the public because we want to teach kids how to swim and be safe around the water in the summer,” Scholes said.
