Aid For Friends seeking money for new shelter
Representatives of Aid For Friends presented a plan to purchase a new shelter to the Pocatello City Council today.
The current shelter sits in a converted single-family residence, built in 1930. The shelter can hold 34 per night, but most nights it’s over capacity.
They’ve estimated that the new building, with additional expenses, could end up costing nearly $1.5 million.
Today they asked the council for $300,000. Money they expect to be taken from city’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
Idaho Housing and Finance has they said would match with a donation up to $500,000.
The City Council seemed interested in the project but was unwilling to make a commitment at this time. They encouraged the group to seek out the help of the county and other cities, like Chubbuck, before they would make a decision.
