INL to offer voluntary separation program

The Idaho National Laboratory is offering a voluntary separation program. Applications from up to 99 employees will be accepted.

In an e-mail to staff Thursday, INL Director Mark Peters said that if the target number is not met, there will not be any involuntary separations to follow.

He said the action was not based on a specific need to reduce workforce, but will allow for a “realignment of staff capabilities with DOE mission priorities and free up resources for investments in strategic scientific and technical capabilities at the laboratory.”

Peters stressed the action would enhance the site’s flexibility and efficiency.

Under a self-select voluntary separation, employees volunteer to leave INL to pursue other opportunities or retire. If accepted, they would receive a severance package based on their years of INL service.

Peters said he remained optimistic about the laboratory’s future.
