Greenway expansion project underway
A major expansion of the Portneuf Greenway trail system is now under construction. It is the first section of what is generally known as the “I-15 Corridor.”
The trail will eventually connect Idaho State University to the Portneuf Wellness Complex. It is expected to be complete by the first of September.
The non-motorized, multi-use trail is being built by D.L. Beck Company. It will be ten feet wide and built to meet standards of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Greenway Foundation President Rory Erchul credits the community for making the project a reality. “The Greenway would not have received the grant funding needed to build this important route if Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance had not opened their employee trail to the public and allowed the Greenway to connect with it. I feel proud to live in a community where we can work together to make Pocatello an even better place to live and work,” said Erchul.
The city of Pocatello sponsored the project and the Marshall and Racine families granted easements across their properties. The Idaho Transportation and Parks and Recreation Departments provided grants to pay for much of the work, along with contributions from the Ifft Foundation, Keller Engineering, Idaho Community Bank, Idaho Central Credit Union, Paul Link, and other anonymous donors.
