Phone scams take another new twist
Con men have put yet another spin on a familiar scam.
The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office says the new approach involves a call to a business employee, convincing the worker that his employer is under some type of confidential investigation by the FBI. They ask the employee to take money from the till, buy a money card, then provide the numbers back to the scammers.
In at least one case, the worker was alert enough to recognize the scam and prevent a loss. It was at least the second reported attempt of a scam of that type to local businesses.
The Sheriff’s Office encourages business owners to make their employees aware of the new scam. And, the office reminds that law enforcement will never solicit money in any way as part of an investigation, collection of fines, or as part of any other scheme.
