Historic horse racing initiative to be on November ballot
An initiative that would authorize historical horse racing in Idaho has qualified to appear on the November General Election ballot.
It will be listed on the ballot as Proposition 1. The initiative would reauthorize historical horse racing terminals, which were repealed by the Legislature in 2015.
Supporters claim the terminals will “save the horse racing industry” in Idaho and generate over $50 million in economic activity.
According to the “Campaign to Save Idaho Horse Racing” the initiative drive gathered more than the required 56,192 valid signatures from all 44 Idaho counties. The campaign also cleared the statutory geographic diversity requirement of 6 percent of registered voters in more than 18 legislative districts.
