Pocatello officer receives Above the Call award

This morning the Pocatello police department held a ceremony, promoting several officers and recognizing the efforts of some community members.

Seven officers received promotions today including Roger Schei, who was promoted to Major, replacing Jim Peterson.

Two local pharmacists were also recognized for their efforts, which provided every officer with Narcan.

But the biggest award of the day was given to patrol officer Kenny McClure. McClure was given the Rich Broadcasting Above the Call award for going out of his way to help a homeless man who was in need of shoes.

McClure not only bought the man shoes but purchased him a bus ticket to Idaho Falls so that the man could continue on his journey to see his family in Alaska.

Describing the event as just another night, McClure said he didn’t expect any of the recognition he has received.

“There are things that officers do that go unrecognized,” McClure said. “But it’s nice to see when people come out and support.”
