New recovery center up and running in Bannock County

A new addiction recovery center is now up and running in Bannock County. It’s called the Moonlight Mountain Recovery Center.

“We really try to offer a wide variety of opportunities for people,” said Dustin Price, clinical director for the center.

He and owner Dustin Morden have taken what used to be a family home and made it into a different kind of home – a place of comfort and support for those dealing with substance abuse and addiction.

They said something this is really needed in the community.

“Drug use and addiction is massive,” Price explained. “We have in societies going back as far as we have records, struggles with alcohol abuse. More recently, we’re seeing a real change, particularly with the opioid crisis and there, we’re seeing a real shift in the dynamics of the people that are finding themselves in an addiction. I think it’s important people understand the typical person that we’re going to serve, the typical “addict” is a person – a normal person – whose gotten trapped, they’ve gotten stuck and they need help to get out.”

That’s where Moonlight Mountain Recovery steps in.

It’s an eight-bed facility that offers a variety of treatment options, some of which include utilizing visual elements such as music or video, using a 12-step model, cognitive behavioral therapy, and more.

“Our treatment approach includes many different things,” Price continued. “Some people see the world a little bit differently – not everyone engages with or really gets healing from any particular approach. So we have a multi-approach model so that people can come in and find that works for them.”

There is also a choice of recreational activities, including board games, hiking and movie nights. There is also family day on Sundays where families can come visit and see how their loved ones are doing. There is also round-the-clock care staff.

The program is voluntary and Price said depending upon the person’s needs, they typically stay anywhere from 30 to 90 days.

The center doesn’t have any residents there yet, but Price said they’re hoping to get their first ones in this coming week.
