Rubber ducks prepare for the big day
It is almost time for the rubber duckies to make their trip down the Snake River, as Idaho Falls is just a little more than a day away from the 28th Annual Great Snake River Greenbelt Duck Race.
It might seem pretty tame and collected, but pretty soon the river will be full of 18,000 rubber ducks and a group of people cheering them on to victory.
Earlier on Thursday the ducks had to get ready for the big day.
The Development Workshop Co. in Idaho Falls helped the rubber ducks get ready by washing each of them, removing bar codes from the last race, and putting new bar codes on.
The ducks travel across the country putting on races, and just got finished with a race in the state of Washington.
About 20 people are helping the 18,000 ducks ready by Saturday.
“This is really critical for the race, without the duck prep it really couldn’t happen and this frees up the rotarians to go out and get all those other activities going,” said Michael O’Bleness, the CEO for Developmental Workshop Co.
The duck race events kick off tomorrow night at Snake River Landing at 5:30 p.m. for the poker run and cruise night. People will be able to show off their classic cars and trucks while they cruise around downtown picking up poker cards. It finishes at Broadway Ford for poker prizes and some good food.
