ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Conference USA is in a state of transition, with six of its 11 football teams going into their last seasons in the league. Western Kentucky coach Tyson Helton was a freshman quarterback when Houston won the first C-USA football title in 1996. He’s now going into his fourth season with the Hilltoppers, who are one of five teams that will be staying. He says the conference has recreated itself many times and become stronger every time. Defending champion and preseason favorite UTSA is among six schools leaving next summer for the American Athletic Conference.
