Chesterfield Fire holds at 2380 acres

UPDATE: 8-16

The Chesterfield Fire is now estimated at 2,380 acres and is 75 percent contained. Full containment is still forecast for Thursday.

UPDATE 8/15/18 11:15 a.m. The Bureau of Land Management reports Chesterfield Fire is now 60 percent contained.

Officials expect the fire to be fully contained on Thursday.

UPDATE 8/14/18 4:20 p.m. The Bureau of Land Management reports Chesterfield Fire has grown to 2,380 acres and is 50 percent contained.

Winds are starting to pick up, causing the fire to creep through retardant lines.

Firefighters are working to secure fireline with the help of helicopters and fire bosses dropping water.

The steep, rugged terrain is making containment difficult.

Officials expect the fire to be fully contained on Thursday.

The fire was caused by lightning.

UPDATE: 8:40 a.m. 8-14 The Bureau of Land Management reports the Chesterfield fire, one mile north of Chesterfield Reservoir on the Fort Hall Reservation, has grown to 2,500 acres. It is about 50 percent contained and is expected to be fully contained Wednesday. It has burned onto the BLM and private land.

Fire activity is expected to pick up as the day heats up, but no structures are threatened and no evacuations or closures are in effect.

Firefighters have built a line around a large portion of the fire, but the south and southeast portion of the fire is in steep, difficult terrain that is difficult to access.

Crews planned to work to secure the fire perimeter Tuesday and complete fire line around the southern portion of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

UPDATE 4:40 p.m.: The Bureau of Land Management reports the Chesterfield Fire has grown to 1,500 acres and is 30 percent contained.

It started Monday morning about one mile north of Chesterfield Reservoir on Fort Hall Reservation.

Fire managers report that there is line around a large portion of the fire, but the east, southeast portion of the fire is in steep, difficult terrain for firefighters to access.

The east, southeast portion of the fire is very active and burning in the Rocky Canyon area.

Multiple retardant and water drops are being made to slow the fire’s progress.

Planes and helicopters are scooping water from the Chesterfield Reservoir.

No structures are threatened.

A wildland fire is burning on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation approximately one mile north of the Chesterfield Reservoir.

The fire is approximately 1,000 acres. It is burning sagebrush and grasslands and impacts Range Unit 10.

Fort Hall Fire Department reports no structures are threatened, and the fire is approximately 40 percent contained.

The Tribal Emergency Operations Center is partially activated.

Fort Hall Fire/EMS, Tribal Fish and Game, Transportation, Public Safety, Bureau of Land Management, Executive Director, Tribal Chairman and Caribou County are assisting.

Crews are using air attack and backburn operations. They are also establishing a fire line.
