Fire burns field despite burn ban

Central Fire District officials report a property owner was burning Friday afternoon despite a county burn ban, and the fire got out of control.
Officials say approximately five acres burned off County Line Road near Klim Technical Riding Gear, and no one was hurt.

There is a burn ban in place in Jefferson County.

Chief Carl Anderson said the owner was not aware of the burn ban.

The responsible party was cited.

Central Fire says this is the second fire in a week caused by a homeowner burning debris despite the burn ban.

No open burning is allowed until September 30.

The only exceptions are campfires in an approved pit at a campground or picnic area, backyard fire pits and permitted agricultural burns.
