35th annual Pocatello Gun Shoot

This weekend the Pocatello Trap Club held its 35th annual appreciation gun shoot. An event that has brought large groups of people into Pocatello for one weekend every year. With participants from Utah, Arizona, Wyoming and Colorado.

“This is the biggest shoot in Idaho. So it’s a real boost for Pocatello to have this, it’s awesome,” Pocatello Trap Club President Randy Adams said.

Describing the event as “amazing. It’s a very addicting sport, people love it.”

And among those shooting lovers is Zella Corder. Sitting in a wheel chair, gun in one arm, puppy in the other, she told me it’s “probably my most favorite thing to do. I’m obviously not a sportsman, but I can be competitive shooting.”

So competitive in fact, that she’s won twice, taking home a prize rifle.

But competition aside, the event really brings people together, something that Adams and Corder both agreed was their favorite part.

“I enjoy seeing all these people, and a lot of these people are regulars, they come here every year,” Adams said. “My favorite part of this whole thing is visiting with everyone,” Corder added. “People that you don’t see, only once a year.”

The four-day event is filled with the sounds of shotgun fire and shells hitting the ground. “This weekend, every shooter with shoot 1,100 rounds. So a lot,” Adams said with a chuckle.

People aged 8 to 80 enjoyed the competitive nature, with the chance to win more than $10,000 dollars in prizes. And if you weren’t able to take something home, there’s always next year.
