Roosevelt fire continues active burn
As of Monday morning, the Roosevelt fire, 32 miles south of Jackson, was estimated at 48,348 acres and was 22 percent contained. 800 personnel are assigned to the fire.
The Bondurant Elementary School will be closed Monday. The community is in “set” stage, and the school is being used as an emergency shelter.
According to Bridger Teton National Forest officials, growth of the fire was high over the past 24 hours. Estimated acreage may be adjusted later today.
Most of the growth occurred to the east and north, starting in areas adjoining the active fire. They say there was also considerable backing and burnouts in the interior of the fire.
Over the next 12 hours, firefighters expect high growth potential to continue. Although temperatures will lower overnight with higher relative humidity, there is potential for gusty winds.
According to the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office, major fire growth on 9/23 prompted “GO” evacuations of Fisherman Creek to fire ICP, Rim Ranches, Sgt. Lane, Rim Station, Flying ‘A’ Ranch to Cline Ranch, and Black Butte and Packer Miner Sub Div.
“Set” locations include Dell Creek, Jack Creek to Gros Ventre, Black Butte, Kendall, The Place.
So far, it’s estimated more than 250 residences in western Wyoming have been ordered evacuated.

Red Cross of Wyoming is opening an Evacuation Center in Jackson at the Montessori School of the Tetons, 1240B Huff lane (behind NAPA). Anyone evacuated can check in at the center for information and other assistance. If an overnight shelter is needed, that can be set up.
