IFFD celebrates Fire Prevention Week with block party

The Idaho Falls Fire Department celebrated Fire Prevention Week Thursday night with a community block party.

Kids did a combat challenge course where they could see what it takes to be a firefighter. There was also face painting, food and more.

This year’s fire prevention theme is look, listen and learn. Look for fire hazards in your home such as an overloaded outlet. Listen for what a smoke detector should sound like. Learn two ways out of every room. The fire department says fire prevention is not just a week, but takes place throughout the year.

“We respond to emergencies all the time, but we’re always educating the public as much as possible,” said Fire Marshal Scott Grimmett. “Just trying to teach the kids at a good learned age so they develop good habits throughout their life.”

The event was also sponsored by the Idaho National Lab Fire Department, the Bureau of Land Management, the Ammon Fire Department, the American Red Cross and the Community Food Basket.
