Race to Feed the Hungry draws hundreds, even with snowy conditions

The snow and rain was not enough to stop the hundreds that ran Thursday morning in the 13th Annual Michael and Wendy Hays Race to Feed the Hungry in Freeman Park.

The event raises thousands of dollars each year for the Community Food Basket – Idaho Falls.

Officials with the Community Food Basket said each dollar donated can be stretched to $5.38.

“My heart is full because all of these folks that are here today are going home to warm houses, they’ve got plenty of food on their table,” said David Manson, the executive director for Community Food Basket – Idaho Falls. “But they also know that there are people who don’t have those blessings and they’re willing to participate and helping us to find a way to make sure that everybody has warm meal and that they have food in their bellies.”

The event organizers, Live Forward Performance and Bill’s Bike & Run, said that by Thursday morning, they were able to present the food basket with a $2,500 check from pre-race registration.

Runners were also able to donate money and non-perishable food items to the Community Food Basket – Idaho Falls at the race. In total, the race raised $3,000.
