Police officer heads to Paradise to drop off donations
The People of Paradise, California, are still recovering from the Camp Fire that burned most of the city earlier this month. An Idaho Falls police officer is on his way to bring some light back in their lives.
Capt. Royce Clements and his son have collected sporting equipment and money for kids who were affected by the Camp Fire.
Clements came up with the idea because he knows how important sports are for kids.
He said that they were able to raise $4,000 in money donations to give to athletic programs around the Paradise area.
“I’m just looking forward to seeing the looks on their faces when I say, ‘Here you go’. Then they get to dig through the stuff and pick what they want to have,” Clements said. “The money will be used to buy things like team uniforms and those kind of things that you just can’t collect for. We’re hoping that it’s just going to put a little bit of happiness in a pretty miserable situation.”
Clements left for Paradise Thursday afternoon, so he will not be able to accept any more more sporting good donations, but people can still donate money for about another month. He said all you need to do is walk into any ISU Credit Union and ask to donate to the Paradise Fund.
