Animal cruelty case to go to trial

A Franklin County judge ruled Friday a misdemeanor cruelty to animals case will proceed against Preston biology teacher Robert Crosland.

Crosland pleaded not guilty to the charge last July after allegations arose that he fed a sick puppy to a snapping turtle he kept in his classroom.

Crosland’s attorney Shane Reichert had filed a motion earlier contending that the charges against Crosland were too vague and, therefore, unconstitutional.

Judge David Hooste ruled against the motion and ordered that a scheduled jury trial go on as scheduled January 3rd in Preston.

Reichert said his client still maintains his innocence.
