Fremont County School District looking for bidders to buy the old Lincoln Elementary School building
Fremont County School District is looking to sell the old Lincoln Elementary School building.
The Lincoln Elementary School has been vacant since 2006. The last time the school was put up for bid, they didn’t have any takers. They’re putting the building up for bid again. Byron Stutzman, Super Intendant of Fremont County says, “When we talked about putting the building up for bid, some of the neighbors came and attended the board meeting. This was because there had been some rumors that the Department of Corrections is interested in expanding the work camp at this building.”
An email from the Idaho Department of correction confirming this interest.
The email states, “The proposed for the expansion involves purchasing the Lincoln Elementary School and making it an extension of the nearby St. Anthony Work Camp. Doing so would add up to 120 beds. We do not have a timeline for the purchase and conversion of the property.”
The Fremont County Sheriff Len Humphries was able to shed some light on the situation, “The Saint Anthony Work Camp has been here for many years. The Department of Corrections is looking to acquire the old Lincoln Elementary School and expanding that as part of the Saint Anthony Work Camp.”
The work camp is a facility for recently released prisoners. It is designed to help them transition into society. The inmates that transition over to this facility, are not violent criminals.
The appraisal for the building is around $264,000. The first bid must be above the amount of the original appraisal value.
The building consists of ten classrooms, a multipurpose room, and office space. It’s been open up for bids in the past, but no has put any bids in. Stutzman says, “The bids are up for negotiation.” If anyone is interested in bidding on the building, they can email or call Byron Stutzman. Stutzman will then send the appraisal information about the bidding process.
