CEI increasing dual enrollment fees

Costs for high school students taking dual credit courses from the College of Eastern Idaho will be going up this year.

The college’s board of trustees has voted to increase the cost of adual credit from $65 to $75 starting with the fall semester. According to the college, the action is part of a move by community colleges statewide to maximize Advanced Opportunities reimbursement money from the state.

Idaho law allows for a maximum reimbursement of $75 per credit for dual credit classes using Advanced Opportunity money. The current $65 fee was set 10 to 15 years ago.

CEI has partnered with the Idaho Falls School District’s “Jumpstart” College program. As part of it, students entering their junior year of high school can take one year of GEM credits through the college. CEI program coordinator Becca Franco said the goal is to allow students to get 36 hours of college credit by the time they graduate from high school.
