Fatal crash that closed Highway 33 near Newdale now open

UPDATE 5/11/19 11:00 a.m.: Madison County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the man killed was Jeremy Essig.

One man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 33 early Wednesday. His relatives are being notified.

Idaho State Police and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office closed the “blinking light” intersection of Highway 33 near milepost 100, for several hours while investigators were on the scene.

The Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. It involved an SUV and a semi-truck.

The Sheriff’s Office said the male driver of the SUV was killed. The driver of the semi-truck received minor injuries. He was evaluated by emergency medical responders but declined transportation to the hospital.

Accident reconstruction experts and the Coroner’s Office were on the scene.

The road was closed for several hours.

The crash is between 15000 East Road and 16200 East Road, about six miles east of Newdale.
