New sound barrier at Jefferson County Lake

Jefferson County’s Park and Rec. department is building a 900 ft long, 12 ft tall sound barrier.

The wall will provide safety and comfort to the campers whose campsite is right next to the highway.

“It started out for more safety, the sound barrier part is a big plus to us. We have had a couple of times, tires come off of trailers or whatever and bounce through the fence, to the campground into the lake, and if they do that, one day somebody’s going to get hurt,” said Jefferson County Parks and Rec. manager Mickey Eames.

The wall is hoped to be completed by the end of June and will be painted a green marble color.
In addition to the wall, new fire pits have been put in at all of the RV campsites.

Camping season at the park will start on May 15.
