Charter School Commission accepts Attorney General’s report
Update: 8-1 Idaho’s Public Charter School Commission has unanimously voted to accept the recommendations of the Idaho Attorney General’s Office to remedy its violations Idaho’s Open Meeting Law.
The Attorney General’s Office directed the commission to opening admit its violation and undergo training on the Open Meeting law in public. That training occurred after the vote today and lasted nearly two hours.
The commission also heard public testimony from nearly 20 charter school board members, administrators, parents, students, and lobbyists. About two-thirds of those speaking were critical and concerned that the commission’s discussions damaged trust that will be difficult to repair.
“This whole matter has been very difficult for everyone involved,” stated PCSC Chairman Alan Reed. “As I said last week, mistakes were made and I hope this special meeting, the training and the opportunity folks had to speak their mind will help us all move forward to support and do what is best for our students and our charter schools.”

Idaho’s Public Charter School Commission has slated a special meeting Thursday in Boise.
It will be held in the Idaho Statehouse, East Wing Garden Level Room 41 starting at 9 a.m.
According to the State Board of Education, the meeting was set to consider a report and list of recommendations made last week by the Idaho Office of the Attorney General. That office launched an investigation in response to claims that the Charter School Commission violated Idaho’s Open Meeting Law during an executive session meeting held last April.
Among its recommendations, the Attorney General’s Office advised the board to acknowledge publicly that it violated the open meeting law, scheduled training on the law within 60 days, and set aside any decisions or actions it may have made during the executive session.
