WINCHESTER, New hampshire (WCVB) — A 12-year-old girl allegedly led police on a car chase Tuesday afternoon through several towns in New Hampshire’s Cheshire County.

A Winchester patrol officer who was involved in the chase said it was a dangerous situation, but noted that no one was hurt.

Dashboard camera video taken by a driver trailing just behind the chase shows a white Chevrolet pickup truck being trailed by several police officers. Officials said a 12-year-old girl was behind the wheel of her father’s truck.

The driver who took the video told WMUR News 9 that at several points, the pickup truck swerved off the road and into the oncoming traffic lane.

Police said that during the chase, their top priority was protecting other cars on the road. They had a vehicle out ahead of the chase to pull over oncoming traffic.

Eventually, a spike strip was laid down in Winchester, which popped the truck’s tires.

Police said the girl ran into nearby woods but was quickly taken into custody. They said the chase lasted about 30 minutes, and they’re grateful no one was hurt.

She was placed in protective custody and then released to her parents, police said.
