Police respond to mask uproar at Utah school board meeting
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A mask uproar at a Salt Lake City area school district meeting prompted officials to call in the police.
KUTV-TV reports parents were incensed that children would still have to wear masks in schools even though face coverings are no longer required elsewhere.
A spokesperson for the Granite School District says police were called to de-escalate the tension on Tuesday.
KUTV-TV showed video of school board members frantically adjourning the meeting during the public comment session as angry parents took the microphone and voiced outrage over the school mask order.
The order remains in place after Utah met criteria allowing other public health orders to expire.
