Democrats Release Redistricting Draft

Many voters in eastern Idaho might be voting in a different district next election.

The Idaho Democratic Party has released its proposed boundary change that would make Madison and Teton counties their own new legislative districts. Also on the draft, Bannock and Power counties would be combined.

George Moses is one of three democrats on the commission. He said when drafting the new districts, public input was the main focus.

“We heard peoples complaints. We tried to move the northern line of that district south, so that it is not as far from north to south,? said Moses.

However the new draft must be approved. On Monday, The Republican Party will present its own draft, and republican commissioner Lou Esposito said that we can expect some changes.

“In looking at what they presented, I do have some concerns and I am some what disappointed,? said Esposito.

Esposito also said that the public should have an active voice in the process.

“People can see for themselves, not only for the Madison-Teton area, but the entire state,? said Esposito.
