Pocatello City Council Confirms New Councilman

At a meeting Thursday night the city council voted to confirm Jim Johnston. The council unanimously approved his confirmation and swore him into office. He also made his first votes as a councilman during Thursday’s meeting.

Mayor Brian Blad nominated Johnston to fill Ron Frasure’s vacant seat.

Brad Huerta plans on running for the city council spot in November.

He said the mayor should have waited until the election to fill the seat.

?With less than 90 days coming before the election, it really begged the question, why you would appoint someone to the seat with the vote so close,? Huerta said.

“If one seat is vacant, that means there is 1/6 of the community opinion that might not be represented there,? Johnston said.

Johnston hopes to stay on as councilman beyond the end of the year. He and Huerta will run against each other in November’s election.
