Century Student Turns Recyclables Into National Award

When life gives you old CDs, you make a CD rack. At least that is what one local high school student did. It won her a national award.

Century High School student, Danielle Frei, won a silver medal at the national convention, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, for her recycled versions of a CD rack, napkin holders and beaded door curtains, all made from used CDs.

The student contest was held in Anaheim, Calif., and Frei won the Recycle and Redesign contest with her reused projects.

“If you look for ways you can recycle, you’re probably going to find some fun way to recycle something that you like. And you can use them all too,” Frei said.

Frei said music stores throw out hundreds of scratched discs every week.
