Otter Appoints Interim Head Of Commerce Department

Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter has named a temporary head of the Idaho Department of Commerce.

Otter announced Wednesday that David Fulkerson will lead the agency until a permanent director is hired.

Fulkerson had been serving as a financial officer at the Idaho Division of Financial Management.

The vacancy was created when Don Dietrich stepped down last week. Dietrich notified Otter last month of his intentions to resign after serving three years to resume his career in the private sector.

Agency spokeswoman Bibiana Nertney told the Idaho Statesman that a permanent director could be named in the next several weeks.

The Department of Commerce markets to state to business and seeks to create jobs. It has a $30 million budget and 53 full time employees.
