Idaho Falls Dog Saves Pregnant Owner’s Life

An Idaho Falls dog is being hailed a hero after saving her owner’s life.

The playful pup isn’t just for show and tell.

“Amazing, loveable and loyal,” said owner Codi Robertson, 15.

Add life-saver to the list, too.

Last week, a seven-months-pregnant Robertson woke up on her couch in the middle of the night.

“And I just started shaking and yelled for my mom,” said Robertson.

Robertson thought it was just the chills, until everything went black.

Her mom, Debbie Denning, never heard her youngest child call for help, but the family’s 8-year-old American Eskimo dog, Mickey, did.

The dog woke up Denning, who found her daughter in the middle of what turned out to be a pregnancy-related seizure.

“She was not responsive, limp, sweaty,” said Denning.

Denning called 911, and Roberston was rushed to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, where her baby boy was delivered two months premature via C-section.

“(It was) pretty scary,” said Denning. “(We) didn’t know if we were going to lose them both.”

Doctors told the pair that could have been the outcome, had Denning not reached her daughter when she did.

“If the dog didn’t wake my mom up, me and the baby both would have been dead,” said Robertson.

The new mom said baby Wyatt is now one week and one day old, and doing great in the EIRMC’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, where he’ll stay until November.

The family said their four-legged hero, Mickey, is irreplaceable.

“She’s one amazing dog,” said Robertson.

“There’s just no way to repay what she has done for my family,” said Denning.

But the family said they will try with puppy treats, belly rubs and lots of extra love.
