Idaho Falls Welcomes First Baby Of 2012

One family is celebrating possibly the best new year in Idaho Falls by welcoming 2012’s first new born baby.

Brittany Mangum gave birth to John Robert Mangum at 2:36 a.m. on Sunday Jan. 1.

Weighing in at 6 pounds and 15 ounces, little baby John was surrounded by dad Jay and big brother Michael on Sunday.

The New Year’s Day birth was exciting, but totally unexpected.

“He wasn’t due until the 24th so it was quite a shock to go into labor and to have him two and half hours later,” said mom Birttany Mangum.

Once the surprise wore off, there was something else to celebrate.

“It was pretty cool to find out he was the first one here in Idaho Falls,” she said.

On top of the surprise delivery was even another surprise. Grandpa and Grandma Mangum are in Idaho Falls visiting from Alaska.

They weren’t expecting to be in town for the projected due date, and were thrilled to be able to see their grandson born.
