Thousands Of Dollars In Heavy Pipe Stolen From City Of Idaho Falls

Idaho Falls police are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars of heavy pipe taken from the City of Idaho Falls Water Department on Hemmert Avenue.

According to the reports, the city reported that sometime within the last week an unknown suspect stole about 190 underground pieces valued at close to $8,000.

The iron barely has any scrap value, water department officials said, and at 193 pieces missing at about 50 pounds apiece, that?s almost 10,000 pounds to haul away.

There are no suspects at this time, police said Monday.

The water department said the loss will not affect operations. It also plans on investing in a better security system.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the IFPD at 529-1200 or Crimestoppers at 522-1983.
