Blackfoot PD Brings New Notification System To City

The Blackfoot Police Department is hoping to make the city’s streets safer with a new online system to notify people of crimes, fires and even sex offender information.

On Monday, Blackfoot, along with the Aberdeen and Shelley police departments, and the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, unveiled Alert ID.

Citizens can subscribe for free and control which alerts they get by setting filters.

Alert ID pings the department databases every 15 minutes for updates. Blackfoot Police Chief David Moore called it a virtual neighborhood network.

“We would like to see more awareness from people in the city, county and I think along with that awareness, will come a reduction in crime because they become more aware of what’s going on in their surroundings,” said Moore.

Citizens can also message each other and police through Alert ID for information or to give tips.
