Police: Car Chase Ends In Crash On Blackfoot Bridge

Blackfoot Police say what started as a traffic stop on Saturday morning, ended in a crash on the bridge over Interstate 15.

Lt. Paul Newbold said when officers tried to make a routine traffic stop around 11:05 a.m., Aldeshon Nappo, 19, drove into a parking lot to avoid police.

Police said Nappo then drove into an alleyway and accelerated through a stop sign, narrowly missing another car. After Nappo escaped a second close-call, police said they backed off of pursuing him.

As Nappo approached an overpass, police said he lost control of his car. They said he hit the cement embankment and did a 360 before stopping.

Police said five people were in the car: three adults and two children, ages 5 and 4. All five were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said Nappo was released from the hospital and is in custody at the Bingham County Jail.

Nappo is charged with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, Felony Eluding of a Peace Officer, two counts of Injury to a Child, Failure to Purchase a Driver’s License, and Warrant from Bannock County.
