Police: Gun Used In Pocatello Shooting Was Stolen

Pocatello police have released the name of the man they say was shot in the chest at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. They also said the gun, an antique, was stolen.

According to police, Jorden Petersen was shot in the chest by Andrew C. McKnight Owen, 26, in a vehicle near the 400 block of West Custer. They said Petersen was able to provide information on the identity of the suspect as well as the suspect’s vehicle.

McKnight Owen, who has no current local address, is being charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated battery and burglary.

On Wednesday, police said they recovered stolen property from commercial burglaries that have occurred in the last few days in Old Town Pocatello. The weapon used in the shooting was among the items recovered.

The burglaries occurred at the 400 and 1400 blocks of North Main, Mike’s Corner Service and Main Street Radiator. The weapon used in the shooting was a .32-caliber gun manufactured by H&H Arms in 1919, according to Mike’s.

Police said the shooting occurred as the result of an argument.

Petersen was hospitalized in Portneuf Medical Center.

A Bannock County patrol unit found McKnight Owen’s vehicle on City Creek Road and with the help of Pocatello officers took him into custody.
