Council OKs Splitting Alameda Plaza

On Thursday night, the Pocatello City Council voted unanimously to approve splitting the Alameda plaza into five different plats in preparation for new developers to come in to the building.

This station covered the story last week about the city Planning and Zoning Commission voting to recommend this move to the city council, and that seemed to carry some weight Thursday as the vote went through without any discussion.

Planning Manager Matthew Lewis said he’s doesn’t have a definitive timeline for development, but that architects present at the meeting are using this split as a part of a larger plan.

Determining these plats is a legal division, not a physical one, but Lewis said finally getting some business on that corner will be great for the city.

“This is a great opportunity to reduce some blight in that area. Obviously Alameda and Yellowstone is one of the heaviest traveled corridors right there and to have that property redeveloped is awesome,” Lewis said.

Lewis said surveyors will come in to figure out the split.
