SEICAA Offers Tax Help
The federal tax deadline is about a month away, so the time to get all of your receipts, w2’s and paperwork in order is rapidly shrinking.
To ease that April 15th stress, an Eastern Idaho company is offering a helping hand.
As a SEICAA employee, Aaron Tuckett is used to helping people in need.
This year, with the help of the government, he’s making sure folks put as much money as possible back in their wallets. For free.
“You get the free service. You get guidance from tax professionals and you learn how to do it on the computer and find out that’s it’s not as difficult as you thought,” said Tuckett
The Pocatello SEICAA office is an official volunteer income tax assistance (VITA) site.
The IRS program helps people, with a total house income of under 57 thousand dollars, gather, sort and file their taxes.
“One of the catches of our program is that the people that come in for tax preparation actually do their taxes themselves,” said Tuckett.
On IRS provided lab tops in front of a trained staff of volunteers, like Patty Day.
“Some people don’t know all the credits and deductions that they can take so we make them aware,” said Day.
So far this year, 48 people have been helped by Day or one of the other five volunteers. Which more than doubles the 20 people they helped all of last year.
“Our goal was 40, so we’ve more than exceeded our expectations,”said Tuckett.
SEICAA offers the VITA service Monday through Wednesday. However, they plan to expand to nights and Thursday’s as April 15th nears.
