World’s 2nd Largest Bull Sale Hosted in Idaho Falls

The world’s second largest angus bull sale was held right here in Idaho Falls.

Nearly 600 people attended Riverbend Ranch’s 12th annual genetic edge bull sale. Here, the best 563 bulls out of the ranch’s herd of over 1,300 were sold to cattle ranchers looking to upgrade their herd.

“Over the last twenty years, we’ve gone through one pure-bred cow herd after another and picked out the absolute best cows and we’ve brought them here to the ranch,” said Riverbend Ranch owner Frank VanderSloot. “Now they’re making babies and their babies are growing up and are being sold. Now Riverbend is being discovered around the country and around the world.”

At the moment, angus bulls are the most popular breed of cattle in the market and the demand for quality is high. Riverbend Ranch owner, Frank VanderSloot, says ranchers at Riverbend know how to manipulate a bull’s genetics to produce a good quality cow.

“There are a lot of important factors that have to come together to make the ideal bull or the ideal cow and the commercial cattle rancher is interested in all of these things being just right in his entire herd,” said VanderSloot.

With the demand for beef rising in Asia and all over the world, VanderSloot predicts the cattle market will only increase…and his ranch will be ready and willing to ship their cattle world-wide to meet the demand.

“The cattle market is just going absolutely wild…it’s looking good for the cattlemen for the next decade or so, I would say and it’s a great time to be in this business,” said VanderSloot.

The most desired bull at the auction sold for around $55,000.
