Man Pleads Guilty To Second-Degree Murder
Geoffery Elawadly pleaded guilty on Wednesday to second-degree murder as part of a plea arrangement with the state.
The guilty plea drops a laundry list of other charges against Elawadly, including two counts of aggravated assault and a deadly weapon enhancement.
Members of Elawadly’s family looked on as proceedings took place.
Elawadly’s charges are in connection with a car chase and shooting that killed 24-year-old Anthony Camp in March 2011.
Elawadly kept Idaho Falls police at bay for several days before they found him hiding out in an Idaho Falls home.
Pursuant to the plea agreement, the state said it is seeking no more than 10 years determinate prison time, but Judge Jon Schindurling said both sides may argue for additional indeterminate time.
Part of the plea said Elawadly may also serve his sentence on the second-degree murder charge at the same time he’s serving for any other charge.
The court confirmed on Wednesday that Elwadly is on probation for a possession charge.
A presentencing investigation is now under way, and Elawadly’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for May 17 at 10:30.
