17,000 Eggs In Local Easter Egg Hunt

Eastern Idaho’s biggest Easter egg hunt was in Idaho Falls Saturday morning.

Hundreds of kids ran around Tautphaus Park this morning, all aiming to get a good amount of eggs in their Easter baskets. Motivated by candy and prizes, all of the nearly 17,000 eggs were claimed within minutes.

“We tripled the size this year, so we thought we’d get double the crowd but we actually got triple the crowd,” said Mike Nelson, an organizer.

“It was noticeably bigger than last year, it must’ve been all the prizes,” said Brad Collins, an organizer.

Bicycles, iPods, gift certificates and free food were up for grabs in this year’s Easter Egg Hunt. In fact, 1,500 eggs out of the nearly 17,000 contained some sort of prize; but for sisters Brooke and Kami, they just got a whole lot of candy.

“We got about 10 or 12 eggs,” said Brooke. “Yeah, it was hard to find the eggs with all of the kids,” said Kami.

Statistics show that Americans will spend around $2.1 billion on Easter candy this year and the big question on everyone’s mind is, who exactly stuffed the all those Easter eggs at this year’s hunt?

“I think the Easter Bunny did it, because I sure didn’t do it,” said Collins.

“The Easter Bunny uses magic so it’s no skin off his teeth, or no ears off his head, I should say,” said Nelson.

If you missed out on this year’s annual Easter egg hunt at Tautphaus Park, don’t fret. The egg hunt has been going on for over 20 years and organizers said they’ll be back next year.

Food experts said there won’t be any shortage of infamous Easter candy this year. Sixteen-billion jelly beans and 90 million chocolate Easter Bunnies have been made for the holiday.
