Volunteers Help Make Home Safer For Sick Infant

In Chubbuck, a community is rallying around a family to help a sick infant.

Mason and Amanda Oswald welcomed little Maysa into the world three months ago, but soon found out Maysa’s life wouldn’t be easy. She was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

“It’s hard enough having a new baby as it is, but having one that has special needs so to say, makes it even tougher,? Amanda said.

The family also learned the unfinished backyard of their home could aggravate Maysa’s chronic lung disease.

“They told us that dust is one of the worst things for her. So these guys thought it would be good to get the grass in so we can at least take her outside to play. We haven’t really been able to take her out of the house since we found out,? Amanda said.

When Amanda’s coworkers at Simplot found out, they decided to help.

“It was unbelievable how many people pitched in and come out and help. It was a great thing, and it was awesome to have everybody come help out and do this,? Volunteer Organizer Todd Bloxham said.

Volunteers came together to landscape the yard, and put in a play area.

The play area is a gift to Maysa’s older brother, Maxon. Having a little sister with cystic fibrosis has meant some changes in his life.

“We had to pull him out of daycare so he doesn’t bring anything home to her,? Amanda said.
