IPUC Holds Rate Increase Workshop

If you’re a Falls Water customer, you may soon see higher numbers on your monthly bill.

That’s because the company wants to raise its rates by more than 25 percent.

The Idaho Public Utilities Commission held a workshop Tuesday evening, so Falls Water could explain its ideas to customers.

Commissioners will ultimately decide on the rate increase this summer after hosting another workshop in July, where customers can testify against the change.

Falls Water President Brent Johnson said the rate increase is due in part to company improvements, including a move to an automated meter system.

“We haven’t been in for an increase in a couple of years, but a lot of our costs have gone up significantly. Utah Power has raised its rates on us almost 10 percent each year for the past two years. One of our biggest expenses is electricity,” said Johnson.

Executive Assistant Gene Fadness said they’ve had a lot of written comments coming in on this.

The public hearing is scheduled for July 10.
